Africa has 54 countries, and an unusual number of them split capital duties between two cities, or quietly handed the title to somewhere other than their biggest city. South Africa runs on three capitals at once. Ivory Coast’s official capital isn’t even where the government actually works.

This quiz puts fifteen of those capitals in front of you, four city options each, mixing the ones most people already know with several that catch out even confident travellers. Work through them all and find out whether you land as a Local Tourist, a Frequent Flyer, a Globetrotter, or a true African Capitals Master.

FAQs:

How many questions are in the African capitals quiz?
Fifteen, spanning North, East, West and Southern Africa.

Why do some countries seem to have two capitals?
A handful genuinely do split the role. Tanzania’s official capital is Dodoma, but most government business still happens in Dar es Salaam. Eswatini splits the job between Mbabane and Lobamba outright.

Can I play it again? Yes, “Fly again” reshuffles both the questions and the answer order.

Is the quiz free to play?
Yes, no sign up or download required.
